Drone Tethering

SkyWire consists of a ground power station, a tether on a reel and a Universal Aerial Power Supply (UAPS) that combined, power a UAV/drone for hours at a time.

The system can operate directly from a vehicle (12v/24v) or from a mains supply. It can allow a drone to fly at altitudes of up to 400feet/120m*. SkyWire can tether almost any rotary drone, with a lightweight power supply at the drone end that ensures that payload capacity is maximised. The tether itself is strong and lightweight. The system is safe and easy to use, with a battery back-up in case of failure.

How it works

The Skywire system consists of 3 main elements:

  • Power supply on the ground, taking power from a 12v or 24v vehicle supply or mains power.
  • Lightweight weatherproof tether, capable of handling data at 50mb per second.
  • Lightweight aerial power supply enabling the system to be used with a range of rotary drones with battery backup incorporated in case of failure.

The application, working conditions and altitude required will most likely determine the class of drone and payloads you will select. The power of SkyWire is that it can be adapted to be compatible with a wide range of drones to suit your needs.

We work with drone manufacturers to ensure that the systems are covered by firmware and work within warranty. Military grade and heavy lift drone options are also available as is the capability to work with your own proprietary drone.

Our ground power supplies can work directly from the mains or generators to keep the drone in the air supplying the power requirements for as long as you need it.

Freedom Power Supply

Need to power your drone directly from a vehicle? No problem. Our IP rated Freedom power supplies can convert power directly from civilian or military vehicles for tethered applications wherever you need it – no generator required so no need carry extra fuel.

Aerial Power Supply

Our range of lightweight tested and certified aerial power supplies convert the power to just what is needed by the drone to guarantee top performance.

Hand reel systems and tether

Our hand reel systems are cost effective and easy to use, supplying reliable power through high quality lightweight tether.

Weatherproof and capable of handling data at 10mb per second, our Kevlar coated tether operates with a breaking strain of over 65kg to make it the most reliable on the market.

Auto-reel

Need to have an onboard tether management system? No problem, our purpose designed auto-reel system allows up to 120m of tether to be automatically managed.

Powering a drone via a tether can also be used to secure the drone from flyaway in built-up areas. Some countries, such as the US, allow tethered drones to be used without the need to carry full pilot’s authorisation (in the US, the FAA Part 107 Certification is not required to fly a tethered drone)*

The main elements of SkyWire have been developed to conform to military specification and as such are IP67 rated and are designed to withstand vibration and shocks.
